It is the oldest chocolate supplier in Paris.
Operating since 1761, Queen Marie-Antoinette was a regular for her chocolate pralines and other sweet specialties and God knows she had a sweet tooth!
This year again, A la mère de famille is still listed among the 10 best chocolatiers in town. On top of their fabulous production of bonbons, pralines and bouchées, you will find preserves, candied chesnusts, a real royal delicacie, macaroons the old fashion way, candied fruit, calissons and much more. Secret recipes and a super strict selection of ingredients starting with the cocoa are the key of this Parisian institution.
The original store has not changed much over the last 250 years and is located on Faubourg Montmatre, an enchanting conclusion to my Secret Passages tour. Worth a trip to step back in time! A cook book in English is available in any of their Paris stores but visiting the oldest one is an absolute must!
