The right impression

To celebrate its 80th. birthday, Musée Marmottan, the charming private foundation located in the gardens of Ranelagh, in the 16th arrondissement, welcomes an exhibition gathering over 80 impressionists masterpieces belonging to private collectors. Unseen for decades since the discreet collectors rerely lend them for exhibitions, these paintings, drawings and sculptures never get a chance to be shared with the public. Monet and his close friend Bazille, Caillebotte, Manet, Renoir, Pissaro, Boudin and Sisley, the pioneers of impressionism who launched the mouvement in 1874 during an exhibition organized in the studio of photogtapher Nadar, boulevard des Capucines, near the Opera house, gathered for you in the Marmottan mansion for only 5 month. I guess the owners don’t want to be separated from their treasures too long.

Marmottant also offers a permanent collection of art and one of the largest collection of impressionists in the world with over 160 paintings by Monet and his companions. As well, the personnal collection of its founder, Paul Marmottan can be seen, a great collection dedicated to the arts of the first Empire. The mansion and the art will be offerd to the Academy of fine arts in 1932 and opened to the public.

A must see and an opportunity to discover another side of Paris, a great location in the upscaled west side of Paris, off the beaten path!
